The SCS Tracker / DSP TNC

 
 

The SCS Tracker / DSP TNC is worldwide the first Terminal Node Controller using a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) as protocol and as modem processor. The close relationship between the hardware level and the higher protocol levels opens the possibility for unique applications.

The highlights of the modem implemtations in the SCS Tracker / DSP TNC:

  • Generally very reliable and flicker free DCD achieved with special DCD algorithms on the signal processor.
  • New developed multi-detector for 300 Bd AFSK. The signal processor automatically processes a frequency range of 400 Hz looking for 300 Bd transmissions and receives all detected signals in parallel. Exact tuning by the user is not necessary any more as a perfect tuning on the receiver side is always achieved automatically.
  • Special transmit- and receive filters for 1200 Bd AFSK, to avoid adjacent channel interference and degradations by AC hum.
  • Adaptive DC-removal by the signalprocessor at 9600 und 19200 Bd Direct-FSK.

The Tracker / DSP TNC comes standard with a temperature compensated crystal oscillator for stability. Built-in ability for GPS position reporting. Packet-Radio operation for VHF and UHF up to 19200 baud.

Easily installed with compatible radios from Icom, Kenwood, Yaesu, SGC, SEA, Furuno, R&S and others.

The PTC-IIusb modem is the multi mode data interface between your PC and radio equipment. The PACTOR-II mode is the industry standard, and the most robust digital mode available for radio data connections. The PTC-IIpro incorporates an audio amplifier for output to a speaker or headphones, which allows the PTC-IIpro's powerful DSP to be used with any audio signal. Built-in ability for GPS position reporting. With the optional Packet-Radio modules, the PTC-IIpro will function as a VHF/UHF modem (up to 19200 baud) and act as a bidirectional gateway for data between HF and VHF/UHF radios.

PTC-IInet

The PTC-IInet is a neat combination of a PACTOR modem (with transceiver control) and a Linux-PC, where both find their place together in a PTC-IIpro sized case. The PTC-IInet has a network connection (Ethernet 10/100) and can with this directly be connected to a router. If that router is connected to the Internet (e.g. via DSL- or cable-modem) then the PTC-IInet is also "online" this way.

When the PTC-IInet receives a connect from the outside, it serves as a gateway to the Internet for that distant station. This function is called PACTOR-IP-Bridge (PIB) and works similar to WLAN, but with the advantage of a very large range of coverage and the disadvantage of narrow bandwidth. The PTC-IInet is by default delivered with PACTOR-III. Configuration is done via a comfortable web interface.

The web interface also supports automatic updates of the firmware and Linux kernel via the Internet. With a simple click, the PTC-IInet connects to the SCS Internet server, looks for updates and installs them automatically, if available.

The professional firmware features are:

  • PACTOR-III mode.
    This wide band PACTOR mode is up to 5 times faster than PACTOR-II !
  • The PACTOR-IP-Bridge for using TCP/IP over a PACTOR link.
  • PACTOR Free Signal Protocol for minimizing packet collisions during automatic access of HF data services.
  • A more robust protocol for the PACTOR link initiation ("Robust Connect").
  • CCIR 491 Numerical Selcals (4 and 5 figure), as well as WRU recognition and answerback for comfortable access to SITOR coastal radio stations.
  • Hayes command set.

Obtain a license

EasyTransfer (for Win98 and above) is a program developed for binary file transfers between two computers connected via PACTOR. The graphical user interface is similar to some well known FTP clients, which are used for file transfers via the Internet. The left side of the user interface shows the content of the local hard drive, the right side shows the content of the remote directory of the distant station. Files can easily be moved between the two sides using standard drag-and-drop actions. In addition to the file transfer, EasyTransfer has a chat mode to exchange hand typed messages. With that, EasyTransfer is the ideal tool to exchange computer data over unlimited distances via HF.
